I walked into my shed one spring to see a tennis ball sized paper ball on the ceiling with a little hole for the queen and decided that before it got too large with her first brood and out of hand I'd get rid of it.
I used a cigarette lighter I had for lighting outside cooking etc and put that underneath.... The paper caught quickly and that was the end of that wasp nest.
